Code of Conduct

Barricades is dedicated to providing a space that is safe and inclusive for all Les Misérables fans. We aim to cultivate a secure and respectful environment throughout the event. Our full Code of Conduct can be found below. We reserve the right to remove attendees from the event for violations of these rules.

  • No abusive or hateful language.
  • No fighting with other attendees.
  • No lewd or lascivious behaviour.
  • Any action that causes significant interference with convention operations or adversely affects the convention’s relationship to attendees, guests, or the public is prohibited.
  • Respect the identities of other attendees. This includes but is not limited to respecting the pronouns of other participants and referring to them by their designated badge names.

Harassment and Altercations

Barricades believes that all attendees, guests, and staff are to be treated with respect and, as such, has a zero tolerance policy for any and all modes of harassment or discrimination. Any instance of harassment or discrimination should be reported to the convention’s Safety Team. The Safety Team will respond to any incident or suggestion of harassment or discrimination.

Harassment includes but is not limited to excessive unwelcome messaging, ridicule or mockery, slurs, name calling, and images of violence and gore.

Discrimination includes but is not limited to singling individual attendees out due to personal characteristics or perceived personal characteristics, such as race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity or sex worker status.

Further, threats, threatening language, or any other acts of aggression or sexual harassment made toward other attendees, guests, or staff will not be tolerated. Under this policy, threats include but are not limited to verbal abuse, intimidation or instilling fear in others, menacing words or gestures, comments that harmfully reinforce structures of oppression, or any other hostile actions undertaken for the purpose of domination or intimidation.

If any such behaviours are reported or observed, the Barricades staff will take prompt action to resolve the situation as necessary, including removing the offending person(s) from the event.

The only language all our mods have in common is English; therefore, to ensure accurate moderation during high volume or heated conversations, mods may ask attendees to conduct the discussion in English only. Failure or refusal to comply with mods’ requests may result in your messages being removed.

To report any violations to the code of conduct, email safety@barricadescon.com, direct message a moderator,  send a message in the Discord safety channel or use the !report [insert concern here] anywhere in the server.

Online Privacy and Safety Policies

Due to the nature of Barricades as an online event, there are measures that all attendees must agree to in order to create a safe and secure environment for all participants:

  1. Recording of members is not permitted, whether in video, audio, or photography, without explicit consent. This includes copying or sharing written comments made during the course of the convention.
  2. Links to Barricades spaces may not be shared with anyone not registered for the convention. This includes the Discord join link and links to join panels and seminars.
  3. Be aware and respectful of the names, pseudonyms, and personal information of all participants. Do not discuss or publish the personal information of other attendees without explicit permission.
  4. Use one consistent badge name as your handle for the event. Use this name to introduce yourself, and refer to other attendees by their chosen badge names.
  5. If you are concerned about your privacy at any point during the convention, contact a member of the Safety Team by emailing safety@barricadescon.com.
  6. If you have a question or comment during a programme event, use the chat to raise your hand. Do not unmute until advised to do so.
