Black and Pink

Black and Pink National is a prison abolitionist organization dedicated to abolishing the criminal punishment system and liberating LGBTQIA2S+ people and people living with HIV/AIDS who are affected by that system through advocacy, support, and organizing.

They have a grassroots network of 11 volunteer-led chapters and more than 20,000 current and formerly incarcerated people. Their current work includes initiatives to develop housing and community spaces for LGTBQIA2S+ youth and young adults who are system-impacted and to provide housing, support services, mental health support, drop-in services and/or community programming, a penpal program with incarcerated members, The Sex Worker Liberation Project, a youth leadership initiative and national advocacy.

2023: Sex Worker Advocacy and Resistance Movement 

SWARM (Sex Worker Advocacy and Resistance Movement) is a grassroots sex worker-led collective fighting criminalization, supporting sex workers, & engaging in solidarity across issues of justice.

Their current work includes fundraising for the National Network of Sex Workers, India legal aid fund; collaborating with Hookers against Hardship; supporting the London Renter’s Union; opposing police and border cruelty; sharing up-to-date information on monkeypox.

Just Detention International (JDI) is a health and human rights organization that seeks to end sexual abuse in all forms of detention. JDI works internationally to mitigate threats to prisoners. They acknowledge LGBTQ+ and vulnerable prisoners, as well as seeking to end anti-migrant violence. JDI combines education and campaigning, with direct support for survivors.

What is Barricades?

Barricades is a new online conference focused on all aspects of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables and its various adaptations! The third edition will be held in 12-14 July 2024. We encourage donations to Black and Pink.

Our first Guest of Honor for Barricades 2024 has been announced! Previous Guests of Honour have included Bonnie Gleicher, Nemo Martin and David Montgomery.
