This talk examines how the role of Javert in Les Misérables has developed across four decades of global performance. I will be discussing vocal lineage, costume and staging. I will also be drawing on interviews, anecdotes, production histories, and multilingual libretto analysis. This is all to tell you all about (finally!) writing the chapter I needed to, and despite constantly hitting ‘The Great Les Mis Copyright Wall’.
