For the 189th anniversary of the Paris Uprising of 1832, Barricades took to Tumblr and Twitter in style!
For many years now, the Les Mis fandom has referred to June 5 and 6 as Barricade Day, and commemorated the insurrection featured in Les Mis with a three-day outpouring of fanfic, fanart, meta, research, and references on the book and its era in an overall Romantic explosion of emotions. Obviously, we had to take part!
On Twitter, we spent June 5 and 6 livetweeting the events of the Paris uprising and the novel’s barricade, from Marius and M. Mabeuf’s despair at dawn all the way to Javert’s suicide and Charles Jeanne’s real-life escape from police pursuit. (Thanks to Akallabeth-joie for the incredible timeline we used!)
On Tumblr, meanwhile, we reblogged a whole host of maps, timelines, primary sources, and other historical references.
Check them out if you missed them the first time round!
