BarricadesCon 2024 is inviting you to join them in supporting Black & Pink National’s holiday campaign.
Black & Pink National, the BarricadesCon 2024 Charity Partner, is collecting holiday cards for LGBTQ inmates and inmates who are HIV-positive. The holiday season can be isolating for those who don’t have loved ones to connect with on the outside. A short message can help bring joy, foster connection and community. The letters help to show correctional staff that people care about the folks on the inside.
On 3 December 2023, BarricadesCon is hosting a virtual event where participants can join via Zoom to review the guidelines and write together. The event will take place between 1– 3pm EST and the Zoom link will be available through our Discord which is linked here.
What You Need:
All cards must be sent on plain white copy paper. If you have access to a printer, you can print the 2023 holiday card design. If you are international, please address your letter to the Black & Pink headquarters:
This initiative is based on the organization’s year-long annual PenPal campaign and, according to their website, the PenPal program is “where Black & Pink National all began.”
“We have thousands of pairs that have joined us since the program first began in 2005,” organization officials say.
Black & Pink coordinates the nationwide program by matching inmates with pen pals who correspond and help them build connections.
The organization explains these regular correspondences are a harm reducing strategy, giving that person a support network outside of prison.
